I still haven't upgraded my mashtun so 13 lbs of grain is my feasible 
max. Added 3lbs of extract to the boil. (Actually added the extract to a 
boil consisting only of first runnings, creating a super-wort that I 
boiled for 15m to try and get some kettle carmelization for this sweetly 
spiced and heady brew.)

Bill, I took your advice and deeply stirred the mash every 15 minutes, 
and was especially diligent about temperature measurements; my mashing 
efficiency was the best I've had in a long, long time.
