It is our hope and our goal that this event will lead to the greater understanding, the greater enjoyment, and the greater quality of homebrewed beer, mead and cider for all who participate. Brewing at home allows us the freedom to make any beverage we are brave enough to attempt. Many home brewers begin their foray into brewing content with any product that resembles the intended beverage. With greater experience in brewing, we gain the confidence and ability to brew with greater predictability in our results. Good beer is a pleasure to drink, regardless of its style. For home brewers who are content with making delicious beverages that don?t necessarily conform to any style, we say ?Cheers!? If you are a brewer who wants the challenge of brewing to a particular style, we invite you to brew and enter your beer, mead and cider in the Great Arizona Homebrew Competition. For those who are new to the idea of homebrew competitions here is a bit of what goes on. Judges are gathered that are familiar with traditional styles of beer, mead and cider. In groups of two to four, they taste all of the entries in a particular style category and determine among themselves which ones most closely represents the style. The three that represent the style the closest are given first, second and third place for that style. There are twenty-eight (28) style categories. The style categories are defined by the Beer Judge Certification Program (BJCP) dated 2008 and can be found at www.bjcp.org. Each entry is given a score and several of the best scoring beverages from all the categories are compared to determine the Best of Show (BOS), Second, and third are all determined by the judges. The judges score sheet is returned to the brewer, it lists the judges? evaluation and comments so you know how your product faired. Why enter the Great Arizona Homebrew Competition? Bragging rights the sense of accomplishment from a brew well made and the prizes. The top three entries in each category will be awarded medals and other prizes. Entries will be accepted through the week February 11th. For important details and restrictions, please see the Brewmeisters Anonymous website at http://www.brewarizona.org or write to: ? Word has come down from Matt Long at Big Sky. Lets get those scotch ales to him. Try to have them in by Friday, but I am sure that the weekend will be alright. If anyone has any problems with that let me know, and I'll run them out there. You can either take them out to Big Sky, and get a beer, or I'll take them out there for you and get a beer. May the best man/woman win. Thanks. Also, I would enjoy doing another club brew at my house, we need beer for the February meetin. I was planning on next weekend, Sunday the 18th. It will be an all-grain, so it will take all day. I would love to get some suggestions as to what style we would like, and everyone is always welcome to come and hang out, help out, and probably drink some beer. If for some reason you would love to come, but can't do Sunday let me know, we can most likely change the date. Have a great day. (Gasp!) I have removed the reporting member from the list. When you report spam to Hotmail or AOL, a complaint is lodged against the sending entity -- in this case Modwest, my company. I try to avoid being labeled a spammer, so today I offer you all some tips about how to use this mailing list: 1) If you ever want to unsubscribe (and stop receiving these emails), just go to: http://mailapp.modwest.com/mailman/listinfo/brew-list And enter your email address in the last box (which says "if you want to unsubscribe...") 2) If you want to send a message to everyone on the list (currently 117 souls!), send it to: brew-list at montanahomebrewers.org 3) If you ever want to reply just to the person who posted a message to the list, just use your 'reply' function in your email program (not 'reply all'). 4) If you ever want to tell a friend "hey baby, you should join this list!", just send her (or him) to http://mailapp.modwest.com/mailman/listinfo/brew-list 5) If you ever lose the URL (link) that I just gave you, hey, cool, it's automatically added to the bottom of all the emails delivered to the list. Thanks to everyone who brewed up a batch and got a sample in for tasting. As soon as I hear anything from Matt I'll pass the word on. Another thing to ponder, is the t-shirts will be getting made soon. If you haven't voted on your favorite t-shirt you better do it quickly. This time I'll have the shirts ready for the February meeting. One last thing. I will be brewing an all-grain for the February meeting, on Sunday at my house 1602 Schilling. If anyone has a particular style let me know, or else I'll be going with a brown ale. Also, everyone is welcome to come and help out, or just hang out. I am planning on having the mash going by 10:30, and hopefully pitching yeast by 4:30. Feel free to show up anytime. Thanks and have a great day. We ordered just standard T-Shirts, but there is an option for the ladies to get a scoop neck t-shirt. So, if any of the ladies in the club would like to get a sized scoop t-shirt, let me know by Friday. That way we can get the shirts by the February meetin. Just let me know what size you would want.
