Despite Initiative 2 in Missoula, marijuana incidents have gone UP. * Report: Missoula marijuana initiative 'ignored' by most of law enforcement And, there's been a rash of relatively large marijuana busts around Missoula lately. * Missoula car crash nets four felony arrests, $12000, five pounds * Missoula County sheriff's deputies nab travelers with 20 pounds of pot in I-90 traffic stop Note the comments on those stories too. Of course it's harvest season, so the seizure of 25lbs doesn't mean pot has disappeared. Far from it, we're suspect. /*Speaking of busts*: /This past spring, we sent out a call for personal stories of marijuana arrests and the serious impact they have on /real Montanans/. Most of all, Patients & Families United will be very proud to present Ethan Nadelmann, the undisputed national leader of the growing movement to end the "drug war," speaking on: / / *"/Obama's/ Drug War?"* Nadelmann is a powerful speaker, here's a couple vids: * On FOX news: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mcBbbPKHGJU * Drug War's Racist Roots: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iifGYnffrBI And here's the press release: *Unprecedented Marijuana Radio Ads Invite Bozeman-Area Public to* *Hear Nation's "Point Man" for Ending the "War on Drugs" at* *"/Cannabis at the Capitol/ Comes to Bozeman" Saturday Night* The nation's leading advocate for ending the "war on drugs" as we know it will speak this coming weekend at a series of events in Bozeman -- and Montana's support group for medical marijuana and pain patients will begin an unprecedented radio advertising campaign tomorrow to invite the Bozeman-area public to one of those events, "Cannabis at the Capitol Comes to Bozeman," at the Holiday Inn on Baxter Lane Saturday night, 7---10 pm. Ethan Nadelmann, founder/director of the prestigious Drug Policy Alliance -- whom /Rolling Stone/ Magazine has called the national "point man" for the movement to end the "drug war" -- will speak about "Obama's Drug War" at the Saturday evening public education event sponsored by Patients & Families United. The event, at the Holiday Inn, is open to the public with merely a $5 admission charge to help the nonprofit patient-support group cover its costs. Earlier on Saturday, Nadelmann will deliver the keynote speech at the 3^rd annual Montana Pain Initiative conference in Bozeman, and will participate in a panel discussion with other experts on pain treatment and related policy issues. Nadelmann's keynote speech is titled "The Impact of Federal Drug Policy on Patients and Providers." The panel discussion to follow will focus on "Implementing National Perspectives in Montana," and will also feature Dr. Bill McCarberg, founder of the Chronic Pain Management Program for Kaiser Permanente; Jennifer Bolan, JD, former Assistant US Attorney and founder of The Legal Side of Pain?; Dr, Kathryn Borgenicht of Bozeman Deaconess Hospital; and Dr. Janice Gomersall of Community Physicians Group. "Montana's medical marijuana patients are learning the hard way that, despite the legality of marijuana as medicine here, the 'drug war' and all the myths created by generations of government propaganda continue to cause unnecessary suffering and obstruct fulfillment of our state law," explained Tom Daubert, founder/director of Patients & Families United. "Montana's marijuana patients and pain patients shouldn't have to live in fear of arrest and jail, but some still do, and we're delighted that Montanans will have the opportunity to meet and hear Ethan Nadelmann, the national intellectual leader on these issues," he said. "A lot of people mistakenly believe that federal drug policy has changed under President Obama," Daubert added. "Generally speaking, this isn't true at all, and Mr. Nadelmann's talk at our event on Saturday night, on 'Obama's Drug War,' will help us understand the facts about this," he said. Daubert said that "/Cannabis at the Capitol /Comes to Bozeman" will bring to Bozeman many of the same informational displays -- including "live, legal, fragrant, flowering marijuana plants" -- that Patients & Families United installed in the Montana capitol rotunda last February, as an educational offering for state legislators. The event aroused controversy in part because it featured live marijuana plants -- which had never before been brought into any capitol building in America -- as well as "free brownies" for all who attended. "/Cannabis at the Capitol/ Comes to Bozeman" will *also* feature "free brownies" -- but, just as at the Helena event, the brownies will NOT contain cannabis. Ethan Nadelmann received his BA, JD, and PhD from Harvard University, and a master's degree in international relations from the London School of Economics. He then taught politics and public affairs at Princeton University from 1987 to 1994, where his speaking and writings on drug policy---in publications ranging from /Science/ and /Foreign Affairs/ to /American Heritage/ and /National Review/---attracted international attention. He authored /Cops Across Borders,/ the first scholarly study of the internationalization of U.S. criminal law enforcement, and co-authored /Policing the Globe: Criminalization and Crime Control in International Relations/, published by Oxford University Press in 2006. In 1994, Nadelmann founded the Lindesmith Center, a drug policy institute created with the philanthropic support of George Soros. In 2000, the growing Center merged with another organization to form the Drug Policy Alliance and Drug Policy Alliance Network, which advocate for drug policies grounded in science, compassion, health and human rights. Having appeared on shows as diverse as /Fox & Friends, 60 Minutes/ and /The Colbert Report/, Nadelmann is widely regarded as America's most prominent proponent of drug policy reform. ### Hope to see you there! -- -- John Masterson Montana NORML - Working to reform marijuana laws in Montana. http://montananorml.org Facebook: http://www.facebook.com/group.php?gid=4730742559 Twitter: http://twitter.com/mtnorml -------------- next part -------------- An HTML attachment was scrubbed...
